Steve then moved to Canberra and joined AV Jennings Homes, where he built frames and roofs and was quickly promoted to supervisor. The highlight of his Canberra career was working on the New Parliament House (the best building in Australia at that time) as a quality assurance building inspector.
Working as a Building Inspector on New Parliament House in Canberra opened up a real desire and interest in this field, wanting to do more of compliance inspections and helping contactors to understand the compliance of the Australian Standards.
For the next 15 years, Steve worked as a site manager and quality assurance building inspector for many significant buildings in Sydney. Highlights include the Sydney Airport Terminal extension, American Express Australian headquarters and many apartment buildings in the CBD. Also, Steve was able to strengthen his experience in civil engineering, including road and bridge construction, concrete technology and concrete cancer. These opportunities added to his expertise in inspecting and preparing dilapidation and post-demolition reports.
