Introducing the Building Inspections Noosa team

Ensure your building inspector is fully qualified and not just a family friend who has some building knowledge

Steve Wilson is the owner and operator of Building Inspections

Steve Wilson is the owner and operator of Building Inspections Noosa. Steve has many years of experience in the building industry as a qualified builder and building inspector. Like many Kiwi’s, Steve moved to Australia as a young teenager with his family and has never looked back. Over the years he has lived in many places. However, once he landed in Queensland, it won him over and he now calls Noosa home.

Shortly after completing his apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery in Brisbane, Cyclone Tracey flattened Darwin. Looking for adventure and opportunity, Steve spent the next seven years helping to rebuild the city with many different types of homes from pre-fabricated panels to metal framework and the traditional timber frame.

Working in Darwin showed me the devastation of the houses and town and the inability of the structure of the houses to withstand the severity of the cyclone. This allowed me to get involved in the building of homes with ‘Cyclone-proof’ building and how they were designed.

Steve then moved to Canberra and joined AV Jennings Homes, where he built frames and roofs and was quickly promoted to supervisor. The highlight of his Canberra career was working on the New Parliament House (the best building in Australia at that time) as a quality assurance building inspector.

Working as a Building Inspector on New Parliament House in Canberra opened up a real desire and interest in this field, wanting to do more of compliance inspections and helping contactors to understand the compliance of the Australian Standards.

For the next 15 years, Steve worked as a site manager and quality assurance building inspector for many significant buildings in Sydney. Highlights include the Sydney Airport Terminal extension, American Express Australian headquarters and many apartment buildings in the CBD. Also, Steve was able to strengthen his experience in civil engineering, including road and bridge construction, concrete technology and concrete cancer. These opportunities added to his expertise in inspecting and preparing dilapidation and post-demolition reports.

Having enough of the hustle and bustle of the Sydney life, Steve finally moved to Noosa. He joined his partner Eileen who has enjoyed living in Noosa for the past 28 years. Steve introduced Eileen to his passions for riding BMW motorcycles, and outrigger canoe paddling.

Living and working here in Noosa, is a dream come true. It is possible to combine work with a quality lifestyle.

In addition to his ‘Medium Rise’ Building Contractor Licence #15011540, Steve also holds a Certificate in Contract Law and the Bureau Veritas AS/NZ 3901 Auditor of Quality Assurance Systems.

“Be informed about your purchase, avoiding disappointment. Ensure your building inspector is fully qualified and not just a family friend who has some building knowledge.

Steve’s experience and professionalism mean you can trust him to give a detailed and thorough report on any building, at any stage.
